John is entering his 1st season at the Coffman YMCA. John comes
to Coffman from Miami University where he spent 3 1/2 years as the
Men's Assistant Coach.
Most recently during the 2009-2010 season, John trained the
Distance Swimmers, leading Freshman Alex Reinhardt to MAC
Conference titles in the 500 and 1650 Freestyle events.
Helping Miami to a second-place conference finish in 2007, John
mentored eight all-MAC swimmers, including back-to-back MAC Swimmer
of the Year Paul Ricard. Ricard won three MAC titles in the 200,
500 and 1,650 freestyle and became the first Miamian in five
seasons to qualify for the NCAA Championships. Ricard also set a
pair of school records in the 500 freestyle and 1,650
freestyle.
At the collegiate level, John spent nearly two years coaching at
Xavier (August 2005 - November 2006), as he assisted with the men's
and women's teams. With the Musketeers, John worked with all
training groups and also was in charge of recruiting for the men's
program.
At the club level, John spent time at both Powel Crosley Jr.
YMCA and Gamble Nippert YMCA.. Serving as an assistant coach at PCY
from 05-06, John helped with the National and Senior Team practices
and developed a strength and conditioning program that focused on
building strength and flexibility. Prior to that, John served as
the head coach at Gamble Nippert from September 2004 to August
2005.
Additionally, John coached at both the club and high school
levels in the Cincinnati area, serving as the head swimming coach
at Wyoming High School (November 2005 - February 2006), an
assistant coach with the Indian Hill Swim Club (June - July
2003-05) and the head swimming coach at the North Hills Swim and
Tennis Club (2000-02).
Prior to his coaching career, John swam for four seasons at
Xavier (2000-04), graduated in May 2004 with a degree in Sport
Management and earned a master's degree in Sport Administration in
2008.
Candice is in her first full
season with the Coffman Y Swim Team, working primarily with the Age
Group swimmers while assistanting with the Senior Group. Candice
comes to CFY after graduating from UK with a degree in Exercise
Science. Prior to UK Candice was a distance swimmer, State and
National Qualifer for Countryside YMCA and Waynesville High School.
Also a certified triathlon coach, Candice brings a great deal of
energy, knowledge, and creativity to the CFY program.
Siobhan
Tirado is entering her 7th season as a YMCA swimming coach.
Siobhan's coaching experience encompasses everything from summer
clubs to high school coaching, including leading her 11-12 boys to
a 3rd place finish at the 2010 Zone Championships. Siobhan swam for
WSU and played soccer before joining the Marine Corps.
She earned her undergraduate degree from UNCW. She has a
masters degree in special education and works at Miamisburg High
school as a special education teacher. Siobhan has two sons, and
four Great Danes. In her limited free time she loves photography
,scrapbooking and reading. Siobhan will be the primary coach of the
White Group.
Hello Coffman swimming families! My name
is Megan Schmale. I have been coaching and teaching swimming for
over 14 years. I swam and coached for the Middletown YMCA and the
Sunset Swampers. I also swam varsity for 4 years at Middletown High
School. In my years in Ohio, I coached 4 years at Sunset and taught
many lessons before leaving. During my stay in Colorado I also
coached 2 high schools teams, 2 years in a USA program, and 4 years
in a summer league. Intermittently, I teach private and group
lessons to children and adults. Just recently I returned from
Colorado where I completed my BS in Human Development and Family
Studies with an Early Childhood teaching license and a MA in
Educational Psychology. I am currently working as a Head Start
teacher in Middletown. In my very little spare time, I love
to spend time with my new husband, Tim, go on hikes, cook, and play
games. My new favorite passion is spinning. I look forward to
getting to know you. Please come by and introduce
yourselves.
This is Lee’s first
year with the Coffman Family YMCA Swim Team where he primarily
coaches the Maroon group. Lee swam competitively in theChicagoarea in the Illinois High School
Association where he was anIllinoisstate finalist and high school
All-American on a nationally ranked medley relay team. Lee
played competitive NAIA water polo atWesternIllinoisUniversityand has competed in the Ohio
Masters swimming program the last eight years.
Lee recently taught swim lessons at
Coffman and holds many YMCA teaching and training certifications
and has made the study of swim stroke technique and mentoring
students a life long pursuit. Lee has many years of working with
youth in various sports, academics and bible studies.
He recently left a
25+ year career in business where he was afront-line, hands-on, team-building leader.
Lee has led several companies to improved performance using the
best state-of-the-industry team-building management
practices.
Lee
currently resides inSpringboro,Ohiowith his wife, Betsy and has two
grown sons.
Lee brings a great deal of energy,
knowledge, dedication and drive to the CFY program and will be
great developing our younger swimmers.
Kathy is in her sixth season
with the Coffman YMCA swim team.
Kathy has been instrumental
in helping build the COffman Swim Team at the younger ages and has
lead team enrollment to significant increases over the
years.
Kathy has 13 years of coaching experience. She started as an
assistant coach at the Middletown YMCA and was able to move into
the Head Coaching position after only one year. Kathy was
able to build the Middletown YMCA from about 60 swimmers to nearly
100, while qualifying relays for the YMCA National Swimming
Championships which Middletown had not done since the mid
80’s.
Kathy has also been the Head Coach for Dayton Christian High
School (DCHS) and coached multiple Ohio High School State finalists
in her tenure.
Kathy is currently a level 2 certified coach through the American
Swim Coaches Association. Kathy has five children all of which were
swimmers.
