Senior
Group -
Ages 12 and Older
This is a competitive training
group designed for senior age swimmers(12-older) to prepare them for eventually
High School, YMCA and USA state and National levels of competition. The emphasis
will be on increasing general fitness levels, enhancing stroke technique, and
mastering concepts related to race strategies, proper nutrition, goal setting,
and mental preparation.
Requirements to Enter Senior Group
To be
considered for placement into the Senior group swimmers
must first be able to complete the Goals of the White Group. In addition,
swimmers must be able to complete each of the following practice sets:
Practice
Attendance
For regular improvement,
swimmers are required to attend 6 out of 7 practices offered per
week.
Meet Attendance
Swimmers are expected to attend
those meets recommended by the group coach in relation to the competitive goals
of the individual swimmer. Swimmers are required to attend at least 3 YMCA meets
during the short-course season in addition to the highest-level championship
meet they qualify for during the short and long-course seasons.
Goals of the Senior Group
The
primary goals of the Senior group are to physically
prepare swimmers for their high school swimming and to physically and
emotionally prepare swimmers for eventual movement into the National group. In
order to move from the Senior to the National group,
swimmers must first be able to complete the Goals of the White Group –
in addition to
meeting the training standards of the National group.
